SuperSPAN (SuperFriend Suicide Prevention Assistance Network) is a pilot program developed by SuperFriend aimed at preventing suicide in rural areas by upskilling and empowering Client Relationship Managers, Regional Managers and Financial Planners from SuperFriend’s Partner Funds to support those at risk of, or affected by, suicide – particularly people in financial distress.
A website for SuperSPAN needed to be established to provide participants with access to a small number of the most appropriate, readily-available resources to assist them to support people at risk of, or effected by, suicide in rural areas.
Working again with SuperFriend to support their valuable programs, The Digital Embassy was tasked to design and develop an online presence for SuperSPAN where stakeholders would have quick access to resources and support numbers quickly and easily on any device.
The new website needed to allow SuperFriend to be able to add new resources for download at any given time using existing Resource Centre functionality developed by our agency. In addition to this, the website had to provide the ability for users to register interest in SuperSPAN to keep abreast with the program's activities and be alerted when new resources are added to the site.
The Digital Embassy’s designers worked to develop a look and feel that reflected SuperSPAN's own unique branding themes and communication elements. In consultation with SuperSPAN's stakeholders it was agreed that as part of the work to be performed our creative team would redesign the SuperSPAN logo, and various branding elements to better showcase the organisations’ connection points throughout the country, and make a simpler, and more contemporary design statement overall.
The proposed website solution would be custom built using WordPress CMS platform due to its ease of use and familiarity with SuperSPAN and SuperFriend administrators. The solution enables SuperSPAN to update content throughout the site and easily manage the Resource Centre features and downloadable content.
To support the communication with the SuperSPAN representatives we proposed the use of a newsletter system where SuperFriend can send out emails to the representatives periodically to update them on the pilot program and new content featured on the site.
The website was designed to provide a simple, yet satisfying experience to all of its users, no matter the device. Designing the site to be responsive to devices of all sizes was key to ensuring it remained accessible to the majority of users, and available when most needed.
The website incorporated this simplicity through a clean and straightforward single page scrolling layout. Featured in the header of the website is a simple global navigation system that takes users quickly to the relevant areas without experiencing page loading interruptions.
WordPress CMS Platform
To meet the need for easy content management, WordPress was the perfect fit for SuperSPAN. The WordPress content management system is intuitive and easy to navigate for any user, which makes website management a breeze. In the case of SuperSPAN, the administrators where already familiar with the CMS platform and found it an effective tool when updating website content, and managing new resources..
The SuperSPAN website was launched by The Digital Embassy in late July 2016 and became a talking point at the National Suicide Prevention Conference held in Canberra. The site will become an ongoing and integral part of the SuperSPAN program once it’s launched.
