AFAP: A Case Study
The Australian Federation of Air Pilots provides a forum for pilots to meet and discuss all aviation related matters. With an active technical committee, the federation contributes expertise towards the development of Australian and International aviation safety standards.
The AFAP approached The Digital Embassy to develop their new website and integrate this with their existing membership management platform. In order to ascertain the best path forward in this project, two workshops (Website Strategy & Digital Strategy) were undertaken to deliver insights and analysis on the requirements, allowing The Digital Embassy to scope and deliver the most relevant solution at both a member and organisation user level.
The new website would need to provide a simple, yet intuitive user experience with a clean corporate interface to match to the AFAP brand. The websites information architecture, functionality and content would need to be strategically planned to deliver relevant, member based information through enhanced engagement features and clear information channels.
The AFAP Jobs Board is known in the industry as THE place to find pilot jobs and has been enhanced to provide a more robust system with search, filtering, dedicated feeds and advertising opportunities for providers.
As with all websites created by The Digital Embassy, the AFAP's new website is optimised to reorder how content is displayed dependent on the device accessing the information. Break points from desktop to tablet and then to smartphone guarantees that the content served to the end user is delivered in the best format possible for that device platform.

As a Certified Partner in DNN (formally known as DotNetNuke), The Digital Embassy was initially contacted due to our track record and expertise in using this powerful platform. The AFAP's membership provider (Omni Software Solutions' MEMNET) utilises specific plugins that directly link to DNN - making the decision to build the website with the DNN CMS a "fait accompli".
AFAP Members have a personalised dashboard that provides them tailored content based upon the employer with integrated forms from their Membership system to manage their details and renew their membership. The dashboard also grants access to a forum where Members can discuss trends in their industry.
Drop down menus in navigation and search functionality allow the user to easily access the information they require whilst still being able to see the page they are accessing.
