The Digital Embassy 2017 Christmas Project: A Case Study

Each Christmas, our team creates a project to say ‘thank you’ to our valued clients for their ongoing support. The project also gives our team a chance to show their creative flair and talents. Previously, our projects have entailed a variety of mediums and scenarios.

Last year our project was to assist the local Adelaide community and sponsor Vinnies. We raised $1,000 to support the hardships endured by those affected by homelessness in the CBD. For our project in 2017, we decided to create a ‘gift generator’. This year, we decided to take a less serious approach to our project with the creation of a quiz, which would provide the end user an amusing gift idea. With the Christmas gift idea struggle we have all experienced at some stage at the back of our minds, we decided upon providing the end user an amusing gift idea.

We outlined in the beginning by our team that the generator would be more humorous, providing the user with a ‘gift idea’ based on the questions they had answered for the said gift receiver. This process was hard-coded in a way which it would select gifts by elimination and as the answered the six, personality-based, questions.

The process began by selecting and creating the questions with intelligent programming, a process in which designed to give the user the desired result. The gift ideas ranged from weekday underwear, to a Justin Bieber pop-up music player.

In the design phase, we decided to give the generator a quirky ‘Aussie’ feel and design. This meant creating moving animations, such as kangaroos, in the backdrop. The project was a complete custom development as a single page application. It included CSS animations.
