The Digital Embassy: Looking Back Over 2017

Last year was an incredible year for our agency! From receiving reputable awards, completing over 1,000 projects and growing our staff and achieving over 10,000 builds in Gitlab, the sun shined brightly in 2017.


Industry Awards

In June, we received three distinction Communicator Awards for website projects delivered by SuperFriend, Southern Cross Care (QLD) and Two Hands Wines.

The Communicator Awards receives over 6,000 entries and is one of the largest global awards, which made the industry recognition quite special for our agency.

On top of the Communicator Awards, we received a Kentico Site of the Month award for the MIGA website, recognising and celebrating dedication and hard work by Kentico partners.

The Cavpower site received a merit award from the Australian Web Awards in October. As stated on their website, the awards ‘recognise the talent of the world’s best web designers, developers and agencies in the world’.

While it isn’t what we set out to achieve with our projects, are extremely proud our hard work has been recognised by renowned industry awards.


Advancements of our own platform, Consul

While our original Consul, our custom platform powered by WordPress, was initially launched in 2015, in 2017 we made substantial changes to advance the development. Our clients asked for it, so we delivered.

Designed specifically for business enterprises, the changes we made to Consul have pushed the platform to the next level. The platform now provides the benefits as the generic WordPress offering – such as the ease of use content management features – but provides the most acclaimed features of WordPress, with a new robust system architecture and security hardening which can be customised and scaled to deliver the functionality, style and user experience (UX) for advanced business application purposes and integrations.



In the middle of 2017, we reached 10,000 builds with Gitlab.

To our team it represents over 18 months of hard work, during which we began adopting a number of modern development practices; including Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.

Continuous Integration means we compile and test all our code automatically as soon as it is checked. By adopting Continuous Integration, our team is aware of any failures within minutes allowing us to react quickly to issues as they happen. Closely related to Continuous Delivery is Continuous Integration, but differs as it means any code, which passes integrations tests, is automatically deployed onto our staging/UAT server, where every team member involved in a project, including the client, can see the latest changes as quickly as possible.


A new team with fresh ideas

In 2017, we grew our team with new staff members who have strategic backgrounds. We are extremely excited to see where our new additions can take us in 2018 and beyond.

After a short break over the Christmas period, our team is ready to tackle 2018 with innovation and creativity at the forefront of all of our projects.
