Major Core Ranking Algorithm for Google

Google has recently confirmed that a major core search ranking algorithm update has taken place – so you may notice some changes to your Google ranking and search engine traffic over the coming weeks.

What is the major ‘core’ change and why is it important to your business?

Google changes the way it ranks websites regularly – you may have heard of the ‘Panda’ or ‘Penguin’ updates. These updates are Google’s way of making sure that the most relevant and trending content is provided to you.

Google is constantly striving to become smarter and these changes are a way of improving the relevance of the search results with more refined search parameters. Also, try as Google may, people still find a way to get around the system and achieve higher rankings when they don’t actually have relevant or current content.

A chief business goal is often to rank for the first page of Google so to make sure they are only serving the most update and correct content, Google uses a set of rules to determine whether or not a website’s content matches and is the most relevant to the search query. This is paramount otherwise you could type in “weather forecast today” and get a link to a weather story in a foreign country, that happened a year ago…

What should you do regardless of what Google changes?

Well, if you are already following Google Best Practices or have The Digital Embassy engaged in your SEO services, you don’t need to worry about their changes at all – we’ve got it covered. These best practices include:

  • The correct use of meta tags;
  • No keyword stuffing;
  • Using quality content; and
  • Don’t buy links.

These changes happen regularly – Google made five (5) major updates last year and changes like this are just a part of having a commercial presence online. If you follow best practises you will be fine. If you are unsure, Contact Us and discuss how we can help you grow and succeeded online.
