Making Christmas Brighter for Vinnies

Each Christmas, The Digital Embassy provide a thank you to their valued clients for their ongoing support with a showcase of their talents and creativity. For 2016, we decided to do things a bit different and look at avenues that would allow us to support our local community, and those less fortunate at a difficult time of year.

Being based in the heart of Adelaide CBD, we are often exposed to the hardships endured by people effected by homelessness and decided we wanted to give a bit back by engaging The St Vincent de Paul Society of South Australia to see how we could help. Our mission was to get behind Vinnies to help them raise funds and awareness of the many services they provide to support those people in Adelaide who are experiencing homelessness.

We could have just donated money as many businesses do, but we knew that would only go so far. Instead, we chose to focus our time and energy to have our staff put together, and feature, in a self-initiated and self-funded video awareness campaign called #MakeChristmasBrighter.

The aim of this campaign was to raise as much awareness as possible using Facebook and other social media platforms, and for every share this video received, The Digital Embassy would then donate one dollar to Vinnies with the goal of raising up to $1,000.

While raising funds is always good, creating awareness of how Vinnies support those in desperate need in our local community was also of great importance.

The video was developed in-house over a two-week period and launched on Monday December 5th. It featured our own staff sharing a short message about the issues facing people in our community who are experiencing hardships and why they turn to Vinnies for support.

The Results

The campaign reached over 35,000 people, was viewed over 10,000 times and was shared, liked, commented on and promoted over 900 times across all social media channels*.

But most importantly, through the generosity of our clients and the greater community, we were able to raise $1,000 to donate to Vinnies SA.

“A wonderful initiative”

“The Digital Embassy’s #MakeChristmasBrighter campaign was a wonderful initiative that was fantastic at engaging the community to raise the awareness of homelessness and disadvantage within our community,” commented Claire Dollard, Marketing Manager of Vinnies SA.

“We are really happy with the results achieved by the #MakeChristmasBrighter campaign. The Digital Embassy seemed to understand Vinnies and what we stood for very quickly which is evident in the final product,” she added.

This initiative also provided The Digital Embassy team with a unique and rewarding experience in pushing beyond our comfort zones by getting in front of the camera, whilst requiring great amounts of teamwork between client projects and after hours to carry out all elements of the campaign with the aim of supporting those less fortunate.

The Digital Embassy would like to thank everyone who participated in the creation and promotion of this campaign and wish everyone a safe, happy and prosperous 2017.
